Whether you’re a cruising veteran of 20+ years or just starting your OpenAir adventures, you’ll enjoy this great winter get-together. Ask anyone who has attended a past OpenAir Conditioner and they’ll confirm – it’s definitely a highlight of the white season! Everyone comes for the fun – and it’s always “convertible optional.” We’re here to enjoy great friends and tales of the open road, to be first to know the 2020 destination, AND YES - you’ll get first shot at those 2020 Headquarters Rooms!
In 2020 OpenAir Classic XV will be our 28th consecutive year of topless touring. It started in 1993 with the Wisconsin Convertible Classic. When WCC ended in 2005 we organized OpenAir Tours. We hit the road smiling in 2006 to continue our touring traditions. We added some new breezy embellishments like “OAC Modified LeMans Starts”, the fun “Sacred Navigator’s Oath Ceremony” and the celebration of the 10, 15, 20 and 25 tour participants. We’re honored to say that for more than a quarter century we’ve traveled with some of the finest, friendliest, happiest and most irrepressible sun chaser, cruise-happy auto enthusiasts on the road. That’s YOU!
After you make your hotel reservation, register now. The deadline is January 13, 2020! Then on January 24 arrive Friday afternoon, check into the hotel, and drop-in at our OAC hospitality room on the Executive Level (Floor 12). Dinner is on your own at one of Madison’s wide choice of restaurants – as you please. Enjoy the evening fun reconnecting with fellow touring enthusiasts in the Governor’s Club Lounge and/or the OAC Registration and Gathering Room.
Saturday Morning we’ll welcome our guest speaker, acclaimed travel journalist and author, Dennis McCann whose book “The Wisconsin Story” has just been reissued by the Wisconsin Historical Press. He’ll share some great tales about Wisconsin characters, places, and legends. Later we’ll jump-start your touring adrenaline with a drive (choose the back-roads route or the regular highway route – we’ll give you the directions) to the historic Old Mill Bar and Restaurant in Mazomanie for the “2020 OAC Destination Unveiling Lunch.”
The Old Mill Restaurant’s acclaimed plated entre’ specialties include (indicate your choice on the registration form) Fork Tender Pot Roast, Chicken Marsala or (Vegetarian) Mushroom Strudel. Dessert will be your choice of Old Feed Mill Bread Pudding or Chocolate Cake. Following the announcement and festivities you’re free to hang around the Old Mill Bar to socialize, explore more Mazomanie, continue your winter country drive or head back to Madison to enjoy the Concourse Hotel and get ready for another evening in the Governors’ Club Lounge!
Where are we going this year? What’s the Headquarters Hotel? Many wise old members will claim they have it figured out. You’ll hear lots of guesses! All we can tell you now is it is not likely to be Eau Claire again – great as it was! But hey – it might be!!?? Funny things happen. Yes, Gary, Mae, Mike, and Donna know. But they’re not telling. Not until Saturday afternoon, after we eat!
Since beginning these backroads topless tours began in 1993, we’ve navigated thousands of miles of heart-thumping twisty roads, dashed over countless glacier carved hills, and cruised through spectacular verdant valleys. But don’t be fooled. We are still far from having “seen it all.” More new good turns lie just ahead. Be assured…there will be plenty adrenaline bursts and dropped jaws again in 2020! Chances are the 200 spots again be claimed quickly. Every member is going to want to come! We will have a 10-14 day
Member’s Only Early Registration Period (MORP) that begins in late May or early June 2020. All Members who post registration in that period are guaranteed a place on the starting grid! So watch your email – register early. Don’t become #201!
