Run Topless, Discover the four best days of Summer!

This OpenAir Touring family was born in 2006 on a sunny August morning in Ashland, Wisconsin, on the shores of Lake Superior. More than 200 topless cars and 400 waving people gathered to form a new, friendly touring group to drive the greatest back roads in the Midwest, explore this awesome country and carry on traditions born in the Wisconsin Convertible Classic (1993-2005.)

Thousands of miles later, with thirteen outstanding tours in the books, OAC XIV will mark the twenty-seventth consecutive year of topless cruising. We’re delighted to be in Eau Claire, our headquarters and base for exploring some of Wisconsin’s most exhilarating drives.

Think of these next four days as a quick run through a fabulous buffet. You’ll get a great taste of the area- and certainly want to come back for much more!
Red Ragtops are fun!

Drop your top, crank up highway tunes and set your GPS for “Awesomeness, Wisconsin!” We may have some optional “early checkpoints” along the way (watch your e-mail) We’re gathering in Eau Claire, one of the most popular destinations in OpenAir history, for the third time. Get ready to meet the world’s friendliest topless touring troupe, 200 breezy cars and 400 smiling people! We’ll explore beautiful river valleys; follow twisted forest trails through Glacier-carved Northwoods Hills, cruise cow-dotted coulees, and experience unforgettable picture postcard vistas.

Our headquarters hotel and tour registration are at the Metropolis Resort & Conference Center with Official Hotels a short drive away. Come in, pick up your official Loaded Welcome Packet (2:00-5:30PM), meet old and new touring friends, and get ready for the Welcome Banquet at the elegant Florian Garden Center.

We’ll be treated to American tunes by the Eau Claire Ukulele Orchestra, toast the open road, swear-in our navigators, and get prepped with tour tips for this “Northwest Territory.”

Listen…the open road, winding river trails and way back trails are calling! We’ll grid in groups of forty and be flagged out, one by one. Our starting point is Carson Park, home of one of the finest logging museums in the US, and just a Hammerin’ Hank homer shot away from the ball park where Hall of Famer, Hank Aaron played his first professional baseball with the Eau Clair Bears.

You’ll get printed tour route directions and set off to see the land that produced Old Abe -The famous Civil War Eagle, fabulous northern forests, glacial carved hills, and hamlets of the North. Be sure you’ve caffeinated your navigator and try to avoid any sudden loud commands. Calm wins the day!

We’ll play the “Follow that Glacier” game, visit checkpoints that give us a special taste of this area, help understand its history, and offer back road’s driving thrills experienced by the lucky few. We’ll put on some miles today, so raise a toast with a fine local beverage.

Get a pack of OAC buddies to enjoy dinner back in town. Sleep well, tomorrow we’ll rock and roll some more!

Rise and shine! Grab a hearty breakfast, make friends with your navigator, and head back to Carson Park where we’ll start the day early with the Topless Concours. Vote for your favorites. Get the OAC Modified LeMans touring instructions and then head for the hills!

Today it’s tops-down through the historic Hidden Valleys country. Discover some of Wisconsin’s most beautiful rural countryside and roll along The Mighty Mississippi. We’ll visit some classic country communities, wind our way to one of the most jaw-dropping overlooks on the entire Great River Road, and maybe get a piece of award winning pie. We’ll play the Coulee Conspiracy Game as we stop at check points along the route.

There’ll be shopping opps for art, antiques, produce, crafts and even garage sales. Cruise back to Eau Claire, grab dinner and tonight we’ll welcome the Rock and Roll Caravan of Robby Vee, the super-talented son of the legendary Bobby Vee who rocketed to stardom when he stepped in to do the show the day after Buddy Holly’s plane crashed. Robby and his talented band carry on the family tradition.

OAC is honored to be treated to an unforgettable evening with a private roof-raising concert by this two-time inductee in the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. He comes with a raft of endorsements including Carl Perkins, “This cat sure can play,” and Sir Paul McCartney, who noted “These guys could play on any stage!” Tonight, they’re playing just for us!

Wake up humming a rockabilly tune! Get breakfast. Head for the 10 a.m. OpenAir WrapUp in the Skybox Room at the Metropolis Resort. We’ll recognize members who have achieved major milestones touring with us. This is where you can use the check-point tickets to enter twenty-five fabulous bucket drawings and maybe take home a prize! We’ll reveal the cars you selected as the “Top of the Topless” celebrate our fourteenth OpenAir Classic, and draw the name of one lucky member to win the Grand Prize!

Get contact info from the new friends you made and wish your touring buddies a safe journey home. Some will explore more of the Eau Claire Area or go back to favorite spots on the tour.

We’ll hope to see you again next year, so block off August 20-23, 2020 for OAC XV! The Directors’ search for next year’s destination begins as this one ends. It will be revealed at the OpenAir Conditioner in Madison in late January 2020. That’s the first big topless party of the New Year and members who attend get first shot at the headquarters hotel rooms. It’s a great way to warm your winter, trade road stories, and get fired up for the next tour. We hope to see you there!

Mark your calendars for OAC XV Aug.20-23, 2020.
