After two days on the road in the Fox Cities and Winnebagoland, I think we all agree that the area is packed with exciting destinations, great little shops, outstanding museums, beautiful scenery, friendly people and challenging - but fun - highways and byways.
Many of you told us the staff and facilities were definitely superb. The reputation of this tour has spread around the Midwest and The Fox Cities CVB staff and the Radisson and Comfort Suites Hotels were more than eager to host our group. Their attention to detail, warm welcome, delicious meals and fast and polite service certainly will set a high mark for future accommodations. We send them a huge round of applause!
And you folks, the smiling, colorful, waving and laughing rolling topless show deserve a standing ovation of your own. You left hundreds of people pointing happily at “all those convertibles driving by” as you created a giant loop of fun around Wisconsin’s largest inland lake on Friday and along both banks of the Fox River on Saturday. The checkpoint people told us they had never seen such a great car club and as always happens on these tours, asked how soon you would return!
On this third OAC Classic we again discovered new ways to see great communities. Several people couldn’t believe what a great road Highway 45 is from Oshkosh to Fond du Lac while others had never been up close to one of those huge wind farms before. Most had never seen a “frog in a blender” and some got even more excited by the Cobra at Zero to 60 in Sherwood. We learned that Fond du Lac offers boat cruises on the big lake and that the outback holds some neat Greenleaf stops and even an exceptional winery – with trout! Keep in mind that the way for our club to grow and keep it’s friendly character (and we do have some neat characters!) is for you to invite other friendly convertible loving people to join us. Share your stories and tales of the tour with your fellow ragtop lovers. Tell them about the OAC, invite them to surf over to the website (www.openairtours.com) and consider becoming members. Remember that we will reward your loyalty by promising that those who sign-up in the Members Only Early Period will be guaranteed a grid position for the OpenAir Classic. By recruiting new members you will be keeping our group fresh and exciting – and you will not be making it harder for you to get into the tour.
By all means, take advantage of the Member’s Page Auto-biographies on our website. All we need is a photo of you and your car and a paragraph or two about yourself and why you enjoy topless touring. Follow the easy instructions at the website and soon your introduction will be up with the rest.
The Third OpenAir Conditioner is set for the weekend of January 23-25, 2009 at the Concourse Hotel and Governor’s Club in Madison. Rooms are limited and at the special rate of $79 for a standard-deluxe room or $109 (both plus taxes) for the Governor’s Club Executive Level. More details will be coming later this fall or early winter as we firm up the plans. so be alert to your e-mail notices. Word has begun to spread that this is a fun winter excursion and we hope you’ll be able to join us on the non-playoff weekend next January.
So thanks again for making the OpenAir Classic the finest topless run in the world. Write “OAC IV” in ink on your calendar for August 20-23, 2009. Now while the summer lingers and as autumn moves in, drop your tops, soak in the rays and keep your spirits up in the clouds. You will never be topped. See you soon!
