Convertible lovers will cruise sensational Apostle Islands Country

Eye-Popping Topless Tour Heads for Gitchi Gumi

The Inaugural OpenAir Classic Tour is set for Aug 17-20 th, 2006

(Madison, WI) All eyes will be on Ashland, WI and the Apostle Island Country on the south shore of the big lake called Gitchi-Gumi this August 17-20 as some 400 “sun and fun lovers” drop their tops and cruise the scenic back roads of Wisconsin’s Bayfield Peninsula.

The Inaugural running of the OpenAir Classic will bring together 200 gorgeous convertibles and 400 drivers and crew from across the US to celebrate the joys of driving open-air automobiles.

The non-competitive OpenAir Classic tour is open to convertible automobiles of any make, model or year. No prior touring or cruise experience is required. Every convertible owner is welcome to become a member of the group and register for the tour. (*Registration info below.)

A Sensational Back Roads Tour Limited to 200 Cars

“This OpenAir Classic tour is designed for folks who bought convertibles because they understand what a multi-sensual pleasure an open-air drive can be,” said Gary Knowles, co-founder of the tour with his wife MaePatrice and fellow convertible lovers Mike and Donna Peroutka. “They know that to really experience the full grandeur of the natural world, you need to take off the roof, feel the warmth of the sun, see the sky stretch from horizon to horizon, hear the crickets, smell the forest and soak in the good life.

“The OpenAirClassic is intentionally limited to just 200 convertibles with some 400 drivers and navigators to ensure that everyone has a great touring experience,” Knowles said. “We love to see lots of convertibles having fun, and 200 is the perfect size to get into the nooks and crannies to visit little “hidden gems” and out-of-the-way places that give this region its extraordinary character.

“For openair lovers, the Apostle Island Country is like a kid’s trip to Disneyland. There’s Lake Superior, Ojibwe culture, Chequamegon Bay, Orchard and Berry Country, deep forest drives, pine air, casinos and great towns like Ashland, Bayfield, Cornucopia, Iron River, Cable, Red Cliff, LaPointe and Odanah. On top of that there will be ferry rides, barb-b-ques, shopping, Wisconsin fish-frys and a concert by Warren Nelson and Friends at a live radio recoding session of Big Top Chautauqua. This is four days of pure topless pleasure off the beaten track with great friends.”

The tour will visit some of the most spectacular twisting back roads and scenic highways in the region, stop in friendly little towns for dining and shopping, enjoy special entertainment, party and celebrate the joys of recreational touring.

Cars and Drivers Coming from “All Over the USA”
Mike Peroutka noted that participants and cars will be coming from Illinois, Iowa, Michigan and the Midwest. Some even come from Florida, North Carolina, South Dakota, Texas and California. “Convertible lovers are a friendly bunch so they invite others to join them. The word spreads far and wide quickly,” he said. “This tour will be the highpoint of the summer for many people and in the future they’ll plan their summer around it. It’s one you won’t want to miss!”

* How to Get one of the 200 spots - Membership and Registration Information
Registration for the tour will began in May with OpenAir Classic members ($25/yr) getting an early registration period after which registration opened to non-members. "Convertible people are a special breed," says Knowles. "By nature they're up-beat, friendly, love wind in their hair, like to see the sky and enjoy waving to kids, other cars even cows in the field. They LOVE to be seen. They cruise down the road with music turned up and big smiles on their faces. You’ll never find a better group of people to hang out with and we’re happy to bring them together. They’ll never be topped!”
